Why "Dragons" is Beautiful and Why You Should Watch It

One of my favorite things to watch when I'm anticipating an upcoming game are the cinematic trailers. If done well, they are often engaging and fascinating mini-stories that reveal the world outside the playable realm of the game. Blizzard has undertaken a huge effort to produce several fully-animated cinematic trailers to promote their game Overwatch. I've watched all of them: the announcement one, "Recall," and "Alive." They were all fantastically animated and somewhat interesting, but none of them impacted me as much as the most recent one, "Dragons."

"Dragons" details the lore behind the assassins Hanzo and Genji, both playable characters in the game. It's hard to describe it without spoiling the short, but the short parallels a fable about two dragons with the actual lives of the two assassins. Similar to the other shorts, it's beautifully animated, with exceptional cinematography and combat sequences. However, this short isn't just about the combat, or any of what makes Overwatch so fun. It's about pride, power, and torn relationships. It's about owning the world and at the same time loosing everything. It's about the humility needed to accept forgiveness and to let go of what you hold most dear. It's about loving those who hurt you, even when they don't love you back. In a way, this short is very Christian. It is most definitely very beautiful. I've watched it twice already. I had chills both times, and tears the second. (This probably won't happen to you, but still.)
I highly recommend you watch this video, because whether you like Overwatch or not, you'll probably like this.
