So what is EGC, Really?

I don't know about you, but I love video games. And if you like games like I do, you probably find it hard to talk to non-gaming friends about them. It's difficult because such a negative stigma surrounds gaming and gaming culture. To some, "gamers" (even the word sounds weird) are at their best geeky time-wasters, or at their worst, antisocial, cussing, adult-aged children.

Well (surprise!) we're not all like that. You see, video games have evolved far past their blocky, blinking beginnings and into emotional, breathtaking, beautiful experiences: into works of art. Games can inspire you, terrify you, break your heart, and bring you to tears. Game designers have crafted their medium into a form of art unlike any other. And these works of art deserve an intelligent and appreciative audience.

Here on Every Game Captive, you'll read and hear from a fellow game aficionado and connoisseur as I take a mature, intelligent look at games and other media. Hopefully, your perspective on games will be enriched and you might be able to share these works of art with your friends - and maybe they will enjoy them too.

WHY "EVERY GAME CAPTIVE?"

Since it's not on the home page, it will be the first thing I say on this one. Every Game Captive is unashamedly a Christian site. As such "Every Game Captive" is inspired by 2 Corinthians 10:5:

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

I believe that games too should be taken captive and submissive to a living relationship with Christ.

That said, I hope you will still benefit from EGC even if you haven't put your faith in Christ. I hope this site will be a blessing to you and I encourage you to talk to a trusted Christian friend or mentor.

Support egc

One of the best ways to support EGC is by reading and providing feedback! (Which should be easy since you probably do that anyways!)

Do you like video games or movies?

Do you have cool thoughts about them and would like to share/discuss them?

Then you're welcome to become a writer for EGC! I'd love to have some more people write for the site. Contact me at dannyhaycox@gmail.com or on Twitter and I'd love to read and post your articles!

What's with the sheep?

The sheep featured around EGC is just the mascot who represents what EGC stands for: following Christ in all areas of life. I think he gives Every Game Captive some personality and fun. It's also a little more professional than having my face posted around the site.

About the author

(This is one of the harder things for me to write, so bear with me.)

I'm Daniel.

I don't claim to be an expert in much of anything, as I'm a student and still learning more every day. But I would like to share what I have learned so far with you. I think my first video game console was a Wii, and I've been playing games ever since.

I like reading and creating in almost any form (drawing, writing, music, videography, and video game design.) I think a good pun is its own reword. I think self-discipline, chivarly, and good poetry are important.

My favorite book is The Warden and The Wolf King by Andrew Peterson.

My favorite game is UNDERTALE by Toby Fox.
