There's plenty of places where you can find current gaming news, Every Game Captive being one of them. However, chances are, you'll head to Kotaku, IGN, or GameSpot if you want to quickly find just the basic facts of a story. Here at EGC (since I'm currently not topping Google's result list) I feel the need to provide more than just the bare facts. That's why today I'm starting a series called "News by Fanart" (NBF) where I'll tell you the recent news of the game industry while highlighting exceptional artists you might not hear of otherwise. Let's begin!
A few days ago, Nintendo announced the new starter and legendary Pokemon for their upcoming Pokemon games, Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon. Starter and legendary Pokemon act as the mascots for their games, as they are usually the first and last (respectively) Pokemon you can obtain. Here's the basic info on the starters. They all look fantastic (although I do admit the seal's design could be a little better.)

The news came in the form of a web post and a short trailer highlighting the Pokemon and the new region, Alola, the game will be set in. It's a shameless recreation of Hawaii, but I'm excited to see another Pokemon game set in a tropical climate. This might have been easy to predict for some dedicated fans who noticed the Tiki hint located in Pokemon X & Y.

The first starter is Rowlet, a Grass/Flying type based on a Barn Owl. It's notable that he is the first dual-type, non-evolved starter Pokemon. It can shoot hybrid leaf/feathers from its wings with its special move, Leafage.

Next up is Litten, the nonchalant fire type kitten who's been inspiring countless "it's lit" references on the internet. It attacks by hurling flaming hairballs, which is clever, yet gross.

And finally, we have Popplio, the seal. He makes balloons out of water.

The legendary Pokemon look fantastic, as does their fanart. At this time, we don't know their exact names.

We should hear more details on Pokemon Sun and Moon in the upcoming months. And of course, you can find the details on EGC. Be sure to check out and support these talented artists! Until next time, this has been News by Fanart.
